The doors to #COETAIL Online 8 close in less than 24 hours!

web-logo-tagline-800px

Happy Sunday! We hope you have had a wonderful start to your summer and are enjoying Father’s Day with your loved ones!

Today we’re posting one last time before registration for Online 8 closes and another cohort of COEAILers start their learning journey!

The stage has been set: Online 8 participants are working their way through the Orientation modules & taken a peek at what’s in store for them during Course 1, Ryan issues his official welcome and new COETAILers have already started using their blogs! The year ahead is sure to be an amazing experience for all.

A quick recap: we started with a Blog Tour, moved on to a 6-day Challenge and Online 8 officially starts TOMORROW!

Online 8 is a 5 course, 1 year program that gives you the option to also become a Google Certified Trainer.

COETAIL is for any educator who is interested in learning & growing through a community approach. All educators are welcome – young & ‘old,’ tech savvy & apprehensive, experienced & new-to-education, classroom teachers & leadership.

Are you ready to jump in with us? What is your biggest fear? Your greatest hope? How might the COETAIL’s community approach to learning further your growth as educator? We can’t wait to witness your journey unfold!

“I would never have guessed that I would be traveling to K-12 districts all over the country talking about purposeful technology integration. That’s because 5 years ago, I could tell you ZERO about technology, much less, authentic and meaningful use of technology in the classroom. I didn’t use tech in my class because I was afraid of it. That all changed once I joined COETAIL and became a Google Certified Trainer. COETAIL and the Google Trainer certification go hand-in-hand. While the Google Trainer certification gave me more of the tech skillset, COETAIL gave me the mindset to be an innovative

leader to push thinking and change the way we think about education. COETAIL and the GET program is the perfect partnership!” ~Emily Roth

“COETAIL helped my classroom practice grow exponentially through digital collaboration and reflection among a cohort of international educators. The focus on educational technology and information literacy provided skills and insight essential to any teacher’s classroom. The Google for Education Trainer certification process helped me hone my skills within GSuite as well as outside of the classroom as a leader of professional development among my peers. Both programs have provided me with an ever growing professional learning network. I’m so excited to see these two programs join forces. Together, COETAIL and Google set the stage for the growth of a powerful network of global educators with the tools and pedagogy to take our classrooms to the next level of learning.” ~Ryan Harwood

ANOTHER Exciting #COETAIL Announcement (Believe us, this one’s good)

COETAIL 2

It might be summer but we’re not done figuring out how to best meet the needs of past, current & future COETAILers.

You’ve been wondering “what’s next?!” since you started COETAIL…well, drum roll please…

#COETAIL2 starts January 2018!

For years COETAILers have been asking how they can stay involved in the COETAIL community. The Eduro-COETAIL merger has allowed us to finally bring the next level of COETAIL to you!

#COETAIL2 will have 3 required courses (think coaching, leadership, digital citizenship) + 12 weeks of optional courses and we’re looking to YOU to help us build these courses!

**What would you love to see in a level 2 program?**
**What optional courses would you like to take?**
**What ideas have you had in the past for courses that other educators would be interested in?**
**What are you passionate about that you would like to share with the world?**

What are we looking for?

  • Practical courses which should take the participants approximately 3 weeks – one unit per week for a total of 3 units (or roughly 30 hours to complete) – basically half a COETAIL course
  • Courses with built-in opportunities for reflection & relevant support material

A few more details:

  • Author Payment: US$500
  • Depending on how this rolls out, we may be able to offer these courses as stand-alone, in which case you would get “first dibs” on teaching too (paid per student)!

You are part of our COETAIL family and we believe you know us best so we’re coming to you first. What can you share with educators around the world to help them continually improve their practice?

Complete this short survey by June 30…then keep an eye on your inbox the first week of July!

No idea is a bad idea…we can’t wait to see your genius shine!

P.S. Online 8, our first 1 year cohort with the option to become a Google Certified Trainer, starts June 19! That’s 3 days from now! Who do you know that would be a perfect fit for the COETAIL community? Here’s some info you can share with them :) And see below for a discount code!

“COETAIL has given me the confidence to try out lots of new things. It has been an incredibly positive experience for me and I recommend it for every teacher.”

This 6-day challenge is intended to engage & grow our community of educators and celebrate our collaboration with the Google for Education Certified Trainer Program. Each day we’ll post the challenge on the COETAIL blog and send a short email with the day’s challenge.

Why should you participate?
1. To demonstrate the power of our community of educators.
2. There are giveaways!

Wow…today is the LAST day of the Challenge! Throughout the last 5 days we’ve asked you to engage, share and be vulnerable in order to increase the value of our online community. We hope you’ve enjoyed our first ever COETAIL Challenge…we are grateful that you have chosen to enhance our community with your presence!

“In 2004, George Siemens developed the idea of a new learning theory based on the digital age that was emerging on the Internet. The connectivism learning theory is based in part on the idea that we learn best through communities. Using this as our basis for designing this program, not only are participants led on a journey of mastery learning, but do so with a supportive community of other participants to ask questions, celebrate successes, and encourage risk taking.

You’ve celebrated success and taken risks in order to connect with the community. Today, we’re all about the questions! COETAIL is a supportive community of educators where you can openly ask questions and receive honest answers. What do you need to know about COETAIL? What can you share about your COETAIL experience?

Today’s Challenge >>> No question is a bad question.

Connect >>> Post your completed challenge to Twitter, Instagram, Google+ or Facebook with @COETAIL, #COETAIL & #GoogleET to be entered to win the giveaways and be connected with the community! Your posts can be as simple or as creative as you’d like.

Bonus >>> This week also happens to be #GooglePDWeek! We’ll be incorporating Googley challenges to celebrate our collaboration with @GoogleForEdu#GoogleET.

Why should you participate?

2. There are giveaways!

Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of the challenge?! The connections & sharing that have been happening during the last 4 days have been powerful…we are honored to have you as part of this community!

Yesterday you got a taste of what if feels like to add value to your PLN through mutual sharing. Today, we’re opening ourselves up in order to create a more tight-knit community.

In September 2010, the Department of Education (US) issued a detailed report that conducted a meta-analysis of 45 published studies that compare online and face-to-face learning. This analysis demonstrated that online learning methods are, on average, at least as effective as face-to-face learning. We believe that not only can online learning be as effective as face-to-face learning, but built on the foundations of theories that lend themselves to online learning, we can create a powerful learning experience for participants who can’t be face-to-face. This community approach to learning that the COETAIL Program is based on continues to show positive results in both online learning and face-to-face courses.

Sometimes online learning can feel lonely. However COETAIL’s goal is to capitalize on the efficacy of online learning while creating a built-in community of support. How was COETAIL’s online learning community different than other experiences you’ve had? One COETAILer said: “Being connected to others digitally is an amazing way to learn and share.  The content was great but the sharing and connections were fantastic.” We’re in this together.

Today’s Challenge >>> Be vulnerable to create connections.

Connect >>> Post your completed challenge to Twitter, Instagram, Google+ or Facebook with @COETAIL, #COETAIL & #GoogleET to be entered to win the giveaways and be connected with the community! Your posts can be as simple or as creative as you’d like.

During the past 3 days you’ve been busy connecting and expanding your professional learning network (PLN). Today, we’re increasing the value of this network.

“The COETAIL Program is designed to give participants multiple opportunities to learn and reflect on their teaching practices as they go through the courses. The feedback participants receive from the learning community is rich in ideas, suggestions and encouragement. This process is called Mastery Learning, and was shown in a paper by Bloom to increase student performance by about one standard deviation over more traditional forms of instruction and assessment.”

Mastery Learning is one of the key pedagogical foundations that COETAIL is built on. Each COETAILer keeps a blog throughout the 5 courses to share and reflect. This transparency and feedback from instructors & the COETAIL community ensures that we are always learning and growing with sharing at our center.

We’re starting at the center of the COETAIL ethos: Community.

web-logo-tagline-800px

Our tagline says it all: A Community Approach to Learning. “The COETAIL program uses a cohort system of learning. Once a cohort starts they become a learning community and together support and learn from each other on their learning journey. Throughout the program participants are encouraged to expand their thinking and take part in different online educational learning communities.”

As you know, during the COETAIL program, not only do you become part of a small community (your cohort of 25-50 people) you also become part of the larger COETAIL community (currently over 1000 strong).

Today’s Challenge >>> Share this challenge! Invite specific educators you think would benefit from becoming part of our community. Ask fellow COETAILers if they’re participating in the challenge. Share with your entire PLN. Stay authentic to you and your community – share the challenge in your own way!
