How do COETAILers grow as Facilitators?

Have you missed any of the posts in our ISTE Standards series? Read more about how COETAILers embody the standards here!

We’re realigning our courses to the new ISTE Standards to equip today’s educator with the knowledge & skills to impact student learning. This realignment allows us to continue to improve the COETAIL experience while staying true to our ethos. The themes of COETAIL Courses 3 & 4 are Visual Communication and Learner-Driven Instruction. Focusing on developing as Collaborators, Designers, and Facilitators, COETAILers report that these are 2 of their favorite courses.

“The ISTE Standards for Educators are your road map to helping students become empowered learners. These standards will deepen your practice, promote collaboration with peers, challenge you to rethink traditional approaches and prepare students to drive their own learning.” (source)

We reached out to our COETAIL alumni to better understand how they grew during the COETAIL program.

grow as facilitators

The next ISTE Standard in our series is Facilitator:

ISTE Standards for Educators // Facilitator
Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students. Educators:
6a.
Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
6b.
Manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field.
6c.
Create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.
6d.
Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.

Eduro Learning embraces a community approach to learning. We believe that our community is essential to COETAIL’s identity so we are letting their voices speak for the program. Below, COETAILers share how they grew as Facilitators during their journey.

The interactiveness of the courses allowed me to remove myself from the center point and learn how to work with others in a group, no matter the distance, in order to deliver quality projects that have the best intentions for student learning.

As a facilitator, I help students move along their learning path at their own pace. I know that using Minecraft and coding in the classroom has helped me innovate so students can meet school standards.

Online 4, COETAIL 2

I was able to look over the Primary curriculum to find the areas, by collaborating with other teachers, to create technology-rich learning environments where students could most benefit from technology integration.

Online 2, COETAIL 2

I have in mind the ISTE standards although they’re not a requirement in my school. Since we are an MYP school I often try to link these standards with the ATLs used in my units.
