The economics course I teach at Yongsan International School of Seoul is a semester long survey class. We take a look at the core concepts of economics but do not have time to delve into the topics in detail. For a culminating project, I like to give the students and opportunity to research in depth one of the core concepts and present to the class. Though I allow the students to propose their medium for presentation, I recommend: video, website, digital portfolios, or blog.
The text book we use is Gregory Mankiw Essentials of Economics. This presentation is based on Mankiw’s “Ten Principles of Economics”
The project in Understanding by Design detail:
I have found that the project allows student to reach the creative level of learning with the material we have covered in course. With well planned out timelines and rubrics they really get into discovering more about their topic so that they can present it in the most creative way possible.
