So here I sit, 2 weeks away from the final class, Course 5 of my COETAIL Educational Technology course, with my head spinning (seems to be a common theme in this course!).

Okay, ya’all, I’ll be the synthesizer on this one and say, “So you’re all saying, I have to BE FIRST, but I have to know WHEN to be first, because BEING FIRST AT THE WRONG TIME becomes INSIGNIFICANT!” Well that […]

roseleipc wrote a new blog post: Blogging is all about putting it out there: My initial thoughts on a Project idea for COETAIL course 5 final Project 1 year, 8 months ago
This is my first official “informal” blog. Jeff said to just put my brainstorming ideas out there and see if anyone has anything to add or suggestion. So, if so, please comment below: The unit I’m looking to Flip is: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions The hope: That the whole unit will be centered around 1-2 essential [...]

Wow, that is an interesting topic to “flip”. There are probably lots of tutorials or explanations online. See if you can research a short tutorial that explains some part of one of the concepts you are working on. You Tube or Khan Academy might be places to start. Have the kids watch the video for homework. When they come in the next day you…[Read more]

RSAnimate: Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us Daniel Pink says the way to get people motivated to perform is to give them autonomy, mastery and purpose. If I can create and own my work, identify with it, control it and then share it with others, I will spend hours of my OWN time creating [...]

Are you going to be my teacher? YouTube video Uploaded by dcannell on Oct 25, 2009 Good question kid? However, I think it would be better if you asked: ARE YOU GOING TO BE MY TEACHER OR ARE YOU GOING TO BE MY EDUCATOR?? Well, as for me, kid, I don’t want to be yours or anyone else’s teacher! [...]

The essential question: What is technology integration? Some rights reserved by Michael D. Dunn I think part of my issue has been NOT feeling like I was able to define “integration” of technology. Wikipedia defines technology integration as “the use of technology tools in general content areas in education in order to allow students to apply…[Read more] -

If only I could designate specific planning time to educational web surfing. All rights reserved by paigesobey I think then I would not dread having to blog. Here I sit, two hours into formulating my first blog for Course 4 of my COETAILS program and I’m still on paragraph one!! Why? Because in the mist of researching the NETS for [...] -
roseleipc commented on the blog post NETs: Whose got this? 1 year, 8 months ago
I really miss my Red Trapper Keeper too, Becky! I agree that there are so many wonderful technology tools out there, but we definitely need to teach our students how to utilize them effectively. And I suppose all of that starts with us Educators figuring out how to utilize them effectively ourselves. Just like learning [...]

Nyoli, Great post. Teaching Algebra 2, I definitely share in your agony of getting the quadratic formula song out of my head after we cover that concept in class. But, like you said, that does show the power of a song and a video.
I too have shown the murderous video and the kids [...] -

roseleipc wrote a new blog post: Are we as educators creating swiss cheese knowledge? Khan Academy is onto something! 2 years, 2 months ago
WOW! Look how far we have come. Can you imagine where we would have been HAD Isaac Newton been able to post his “lectures” on YouTube? Why not help our students become 100% bike riders . Why are we handing them that unicycle before they’re ready? This seems to be the puzzle piece that will allow us as educators to leap out of the [...]

The power of a visual is priceless! I truly believe that pictures do speak a 1000 words and as advertisements show time and time again, an image sells. So, over this last month, I have really worked to make visuals a conscience part of my lessons and work to incorporate visual literacy into my classroom. For instance, last [...] -
