I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Voice Thread and the voice thread app. A couple of years ago I tried a couple of things with my students and it didn’t go well. There was a really long upload time and students had to repeatedly sign in.
This week I had another go with it. I thought, internet is faster, the app is popular…[Read more]-
We used VT with iPad for our 2nd Grade Project – Australia Project. It went pretty smooth. In our case, since we have a school accounts, we created our students accounts (using the bulk upload – .csv file)
After that then you we create a group (by class) inside your account, and then added these students to their group. Once your group is ready,…[Read more]

Hey thanks for that. I like the way it is relatively unimposing in a visual sense. It really helps to just show how the learner reads aloud without distracting bells, whistles and graphics.

OK – I found it – Feeddler. Seems to work well – connects straight to the gmail reader so no duplication in tasks to add RSSs’! Great.

If you’re an iPad newbie like me, you might enjoy a blog I just wrote summarizing three talks that I heard about how to use iPads in the classroom.

Hello. I recently bought an ipad for myself and after a slow start with it, I am starting to understand what it can do for me. I am an EAL teacher at primary level, and we don’t have ipads for the children yet, although many of the children have them at home (one Y1 boy told me he learned his phonics on one!). I have dabbled with a few apps with…[Read more]

Hi Heather,
I use two apps regularly.
The first is the Tumblr app. It is slick and easy to use. I got that for our class website so I could upload pictures easily.
The second is Show Me. It is a whiteboard that you can record sound and writing with. It is very good for assessment. I have used it to have the students read into, do sight word…[Read more]

Hi Heather
I’m glad you liked my blog about iPad 101. I thought I would put a link here in your question so others can read my blog post too. You’ll find better and deeper information out in the internet but my post would be good for a newbie (like me) that wants a general introduction to the idea of iPads in the classroom.
iPad 101Thanks!

I would have to agree that showme is a must. I have had our second graders explain math strategies, demonstrate skills in reading, show their understanding of scientific concepts and even do some comparisons in social studies. I also love Skitch. Skitch is great for labeling pictures with different colors, writing short captions and lots more. …[Read more]

Our students love Book Creator for their Reader and Writers workshop and for file sharing we use Instashare (free app), it makes local file sharing painless.
