Well done on your final project and thank you for sharing. I am also curious to hear about your reflections on this 'project'. I'm sure the students had a blast but how do you feel it deepened their thinking? How would you adapt or change this 'project' if you were to do it again next year?

Although I love your initial idea of using iBook, we have to accept that we can only do so much along side our work and the busyness of day to day things. I think tutorials are a great idea and I like how you have combined it with a subject like economics. I also like how you gave the students a choice of software. Redefinition is all about creating something and not tied down to using a particular software or tool.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Adam - Thanks for sharing that variation on the Fishbowl. I've used a strictly analogue version but this blog related version takes it to another level. I could also relate to your sentiment that you were annoyed you didn’t think of it before. For the record...me, too. Not that I would have thought of it but that you would have and shared it with me.

In all seriousness, though, one struggle I have is to make the blogs more meaningful and significant in the classroom. I want to build a sense of community around them that doesn't rest entirely on my shoulders or free time to maintain. Ideas such as this are perfect for injecting some vitality into them. Thank you for posting that detailed description.

Well done Adam! Even though this wasn't your original idea, it's still an excellent example of what we can achieve when we re-imagine assessment and learning in a technology-rich environment. How did the students feel about this type of project? Did they like it better than other, more traditional assessments? If so, why? What do you think helped deepen or better their learning in this format, as opposed to another, more traditional format? Why?

Thanks for the kind words. It helped a lot to know I had friends out there in the audience. And I'm so glad you enjoyed the conference. It was a blast to just learn for the sake of learning.

Adam,

Thank you for sharing video resume. It captured who I think you are from knowing you through COETAIL. You have inspired me to try to make one, too.

I would make one suggestion. When you were speaking on camera, I recognized you and your personality as I remembered them from COETAIL sessions and your blog posts. I paid closer attention, though, when you cut to photos of yourself with students or working in the classroom. This were things that I had not seen. I especially liked the images of you coaching the students and you in your classroom. I would include more photos like those. You could also edit in some short (five seconds) video clips of how your classroom operates and how you and students and parents get along. You could continue the narration, but use the video to illustrate what you want the viewer to remember.

Good luck!

Thank you for sharing ‘12 little ideas/concepts/sayings…’ It is always fascinating to learn about new applications and ideas. I must feel the same as a child when a basket full of goodies is presented at ‘trick-or-treat’.

My dear Coetailer and teacher friend Reiko often shares with me what she finds on free apps especially when the suppliers are offering for free of charge at the beginning of launching or due to natural disaster such as the case of hurricane Sandy. Since our professional needs and interests are similar, what she introduced to me has been very useful and helpful. We’ve been using Voicethreads, Evernote and Dropbox applications extensively for sharing and storing information on our Course 5 final project. Just last week she showed me:たてコラム、Ever2Drop, and Offline Pages, which I look forward to exploring more.

Although I have downloaded over 50 useful applications to my iPad and iPhone, I wonder what life would be without apps. Google Maps on the iPhone 4 has been my lifeline when I work and live in not so familiar places. The earthquake warning apps are valuable as well. Google Calendar has been a handy way to find what my family members’ daily schedules are without checking with them directly.

The challenge is how to categorize/organize the apps wisely so that the apps can be easily found when it is needed by one or two fingers.

I love this idea! I love it even more when you think about collaboratively authoring the book with other classes around the world. How amazing would it be not only to have the whole "book" authored by students, but to be able to bring in multiple perspectives and experiences on various topics? I hope you are able to get started on this while you're at YIS. I'd love to help and see where it goes!

For the last few weeks, actually I think the conversation started at Learning 2.012 for me, I've been struggling with the idea of "balance". When we say we need to be "balanced" we're often insinuating that "balance" comes from spending more time offline. Does that make time online a bad thing? Why should "balance" indicate a preference for one over the other, if we're trying to make them equal. Are we trying to make the time equal? Anyway, you can see I have more questions than answers. I'm just not sure it's actually "balance" that we're looking for. I think we want quality time, doing something worthwhile. Why should it matter how or where or in what format we do it?

Well done Adam! Love the look of your site, and I think the video represents you well. I like to think that you have a huge competitive advantage after going through COETAIL, and of course, working at YIS :) We'll certainly miss you around here, but wish you the best of luck in finding what you're looking for!

Totally agree with Mads & Clint - I think we have an opportunity to let students take ownership over their learning in a newer format - sharing more publicly, perhaps being more collaborative and creative. We just have to be careful that we don't "homework-ize" it to fit into our "old" model of what learning looks like. Personally, I think the challenge is for teachers to truly understand the potential of this medium, to be enthusiastic about it's use, and then to "get out of the way" - to let students share naturally and maybe more informally than they are traditionally asked to do, to make this learning and sharing their own experience.
